Purdue University's School of Veterinary Medicine will be renamed a 'college' by next spring.

The Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine is shedding its 37-year-old title to become the College of Veterinary Medicine next spring.
The Purdue University Board of Trustees made the decision earlier this month to “more accurately reflect the size and scope of the programs within the School of Veterinary Medicine,” said Dr. Willie Reed, the school’s dean, in a
report put out by the University News Service.
In the article, Reed noted that the change will clear up a common misconception that the veterinary school is part of another, larger college on campus. Aside from Purdue, just five of the 28 veterinary medical programs accredited in the United States are referred to as “schools.” The vast majority have “college” in their titles.
During the same meeting, Trustees also approved renaming the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures. Starting Jan. 1, it will be known as the School of Languages and Cultures.
