Practice Sessions: In order to prepare you for a successful experience in your CE course, we request you attend a Practice Session prior to the first Real Time Session. Please arrive promptly at the start time; each Practice Session is up to 1 hour in length. For more information, please visit the CE Practice Area.

*The instructor for this course will be using audio which will require you to have a headset or speakers to listen. If you have any concerns regarding your computer's audio capabilities, please be sure to attend one of the Practice Sessions.

Level and Prerequisites: This basic course is geared toward newly graduated veterinary technicians or experienced veterinary assistants. This course would be a good basic review for experienced technicians.

Course Description:
Radiology is one of the most diagnostic tools in veterinary medicine. This course will provide a review of how to acquire high quality diagnostic radiographs with minimal radiation exposure to themselves and to the patient. The participant will be introduced to optimal patient positioning for radiographic studies with the incorporation of chemical restraint and positioning devices. This course will provide a better understanding of x-ray production, terminology, technique and safety.

Week 1 (Real Time Session October 6): Getting Started- Understanding Radiographic Terminology, Production of X-rays, Image Processing and Developing a Technique Chart

Successful completion (scoring 80% or better) on the end-of-course test is required to earn a certificate of completion for the course.

About the Instructor:
Michelle Connell, AA, BS has been working in the veterinary field since 2002. She attended the University of California, Davis and received her BS in Animal Science in 2006. She accepted a position at the University of California, Davis in 2009 as an Imaging Technician for the Department of Biomedical Engineering. There, she performed preclinical imaging on a number of modalities including computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging and positron emission tomography. During this time she discovered her passion for imaging and teaching. In 2013, she started working as an Imaging Technician at the University of California, Davis Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital. She works in the radiology department performing radiographs, fluoroscopy and computed tomography and also teaches the fourth year veterinary students.

  1. Enrollment qualifications: VIN CE courses are open to VIN member and non-member veterinarians. Veterinarians enrolling in a VSPN CE course must be a VIN member. Veterinary support staff must be a VSPN member to enroll in a VSPN CE or a VIN CE course open to VSPN member enrollment.
  2. Each enrollee must be able to receive emails from @vspn.org and @vin.com addresses. Email is our major form of communication with participants; personal emails are highly recommended rather than clinic/hospital email addresses.
  3. Each person is individually responsible for his/her own registration. To ensure that all information received is secure and correct, please do not enroll for a course on behalf of another individual.
