A 5-year-old intact female dog (case I) and a 7-year-old male dog (case II) which both had bilateral hindlimb lameness were referred to Chonbuk national university animal hospital.
Physical examination, palpation, neurological examination, CBC, serum chemistry test, X-ray examination and myelography were performed.
Case I and II were diagnosed as thoracolumbar disk diseases between T13 and L1 in case I (grade II), between T10~T11 and T13~L1 in case II (grade II).
We performed the acupuncture therapy three times a week for 30 minutes per day. Acupoints for case I were GV-5 (Xuan Shu), GB-30 (Huan Tiao), GB-31 (Feng Shi), GV-20 (Bai Hui), ST-36 (Zu San Li), GB-34 (Yang Ling Quan), and for case II, GV-5(Xuan Shu), GV-6 (Ji Zhong), GV-7 (Zhong She), GV-20 (Bai Hui), GB-30 (Huan Tiao), GB-31(Feng Shi), ST-36 (Zu San Li), GB-34(Yang Ling Quan) were used. 2 weeks later, two cases were almost recovered from hindlimb lameness.
From this study, we confirmed that early acupuncture in grade II thoracolumbar disk disease by using these acupoints were successful.
