Who can be nominated?
Veritas award nominees can be anyone who has faced adversity in promoting scientific facts and whose work benefits human and/or animal health.
What is “adversity” as referenced above?
Past award winners have faced commercially motivated, or otherwise inappropriately driven, activities designed to wrongly diminish the validity of their work, sometimes combined with online or offline harassment, bullying, or career challenges.
Can I nominate myself?
Sure!
Do nominees have to be veterinarians?
No, they can be veterinarians, doctors (physicians), research scientists, journalists, or others whose work benefits human and/or animal health.
Can nominees know that they have been nominated?
The nomination process is not secret. If you nominate someone, you are free to tell them or keep it as a surprise should they be awarded.
Do nominees have to be VIN members?
Also no.
How are nominations processed?
The form you fill out populates a spreadsheet. Once the ballots close, entries are screened to check for duplication or missing information and to make sure they meet the above criteria. After that, the sheet is shared with the judging committee.
Why do you want the phone numbers and emails of the nominees?
We need to be able to contact award winners.
Can I nominate someone if I do not have their email or phone number?
Yes, though it may present a challenge for contacting them should they be considered for the award. Website URL, scientific bio (i.e. PubMed), or social media/LinkedIn contact information could also work.
Who are the judges?
Judges typically include past winners, scientific experts, and senior VIN Consultants.
When will the award be announced?
The award is usually announced in the spring of each year.
