Practice Sessions: In order to prepare you for a successful experience in your CE course,
we request you attend a practice session prior to the first Real Time Session. Times and dates will be listed
in your course confirmation email. Expect to spend up to 1 hour at one of the 2-4 practice sessions held
prior to the first Real Time Session.
Level and Prerequisites: This course is open to participants
with any level of experience with diagnosis and treatment of hyperadrenocorticism.
It is geared towards veterinarians seeking a refresher on the diagnosis
of hyperadrenocorticism, and practitioners that would like
more guidance on the use of trilostane.

This course has been submitted for RACE approval for veterinarians only.
Course Description:
This course will detail the diagnosis and medical management of
canine hyperadrenocorticism.
The instructors will have an overview of available options for
medical management of hyperadrenocorticism, with a more detailed
discussion on the use of trilostane.
This course consists of two (2) 2 hour Real Time Sessions,
supplemental library materials, interactive message board discussions, and a mandatory
end-of-course test.
Successful completion (scoring 80% or better) on the end-of-course test is required
to earn a certificate of completion for the course.
Upon completion of this course, the participant should be able to
- Know normal adrenal physiology and regulation of the
hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis.
- Know how to diagnose hyperadrenocorticism, including pros and cons
for each endocrine test in various clinical scenarios.
- Understand management of canine Cushing's disease.
- Know what to do when a patient is screaming,
"I have Cushing's," but the usual diagnostics disagree.
Course Materials: Course materials will be available
in the course library prior to each Real Time Session.

About the Instructors:
Todd Archer completed veterinary school at
Mississippi State University, and loved it so much that he stayed for
an internal medicine residency, and is now a member of the faculty.
He recently obtained board certification by ACVIM.
Patty Lathan received her veterinary degree
from the University of Pennsylvania and completed a small animal
internal medicine residency at Purdue University.
Following board certification by the ACVIM, she returned to
Mississippi State University, where she had previously completed
her internship.
Course Outline:
Week 1 (Real Time Session April 1):
Diagnosis of hyperadrenocorticism

Content:
Clinical signs, minimum database findings, and definitive diagnosis
(including screening and differentiating tests) of canine hyperadrenocorticism.
Week 2 (Real Time Session April 8):
Treatment of hyperadrenocorticism
Instructor(s): Todd Archer, DVM
Content:
Medical treatment and monitoring (including mitotane and trilostane),
treatment complications, and other modes of treatment.
CE CREDITS: 4
Tuition: Member $80 ($72 early bird special if enrolled by March 11, 2012).
Non-Member $150 ($135 early bird special if enrolled by March 11, 2012).
*To ensure participants are ready and prepared for classes, enrollment will close when
the maximum number of participants is reached or at 5pm ET the day of the first
Real Time Session unless otherwise noted. If the first Real Time Session is on a
weekend, course enrollment will close on the Friday before the first Real Time Session.
