actively interested in canine and feline nutrition.

Course Information:
This course is intended to review tools used in nutrition practice,
as well as basic principles of canine and feline nutrition.
This two-hour course will focus on nutritional assessment tools,
differences between canine and feline nutrition, a brief overview
of pet food label interpretation, and a discussion of dietary
options for dogs and cats.
Week 1 (Real Time Session February 13, 2017):
Canine/Feline Nutritional Tools

Format: Audio
Objectives: Upon completion of this session, the participant should be able to
- estimate energy requirements, body condition score, muscle condition score,
and ideal body weight for dogs and cats.
- understand how to obtain a thorough diet history.
- discuss basic differences between canine and feline nutrition.
- review basic aspects of AAFCO requirements for pet food labels.
- understand options for complete and balanced diets for dogs and cats.
Successful completion (scoring 80% or better) on the end-of-course test is required
to earn a certificate of completion for the course.

Required Textbook(s): There is no required textbook for this course.
About the Presenter:
Dr. Catherine Lenox graduated from veterinary school at the University
of Missouri in 2007. She then went on to complete a small animal medicine and surgery
internship at Colorado State University and a small animal nutrition residency at the
Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. She was board-certified by
the American College of Veterinary Nutrition in 2011. Dr. Lenox is also certified in
veterinary acupuncture. After three years in specialty practice, Dr. Lenox joined Royal
Canin USA in 2014. She is currently Scientific Affairs Manager at Royal Canin USA.
