Level and Prerequisites:
This
basic course will be open to veterinarians and
veterinary technicians actively interested in large animal necropsy
techniques, lesions, and post-mortem changes.
The MULT214-0813: Basic Necropsy Technique course is a prerequisite for this course.
VIN CE Course: Open to veterinarians and veterinary technicians.
This course has been RACE approved for veterinarians and veterinary technicians.
Course Description:
This course is designed to familiarize the attendee with large animal
necropsy specifics, common post-mortem changes, the meaning
of pattern in lesion recognition and types of lesions. By the end of
the course, the attendee should be able to recognize common lesions,
exudates, form a morphologic diagnosis and perform a large animal necropsy.
This course consists of one (1) 2-hour Real Time Session, supplemental library materials,
interactive message board discussions, and a mandatory end-of-course test.
Successful completion (scoring 80% or better) on the end-of-course test is required
to earn a certificate of completion for the course.
*The lecture portion of this course will be an audio presentation, please be prepared to listen.
Upon completion of this course, the participant should be able to
- perform basic necropsies of a large animal.
- choose a biopsy specimen for submission and preserve it.
- know the meaning and importance of distribution in lesion recognition.
- know common post-mortem changes (that are not lesions).
- know common lesions and what you can learn from them.

About the Instructor:
Eric Snook graduated from Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2002.
He completed a residency in anatomic pathology at LSU in 2009.
He received his PhD at Tulane University in 2013 and is currently studying muscular
dystrophy as a post-doctoral research associate at TAMU.

- Enrollment qualifications: VIN CE courses are open to
VIN member and non-member veterinarians. Veterinarians enrolling in a VSPN CE course
must be a VIN member. Veterinary support staff must be a VSPN member to enroll in a
VSPN CE or a VIN CE course open to VSPN member enrollment.
