Practice Sessions: In order to prepare you for a successful experience in your CE course, we request you attend a practice session prior to the first Real Time Session. Times and dates will be listed in your course confirmation email. Expect to spend up to 1 hour at one of the 2-4 practice sessions held prior to the first Real Time Session.

Level and Prerequisites:
This course provides an introduction to the principles of diagnostic medicine, problem-based medical records, evidenced-based medicine and proper use of laboratory diagnostic testing information. It would serve at the foundation for more comprehensive courses on these topics and also prepare participants to apply these principles in the organ-system-based modules that follow.
VIN CE Course: This course is open to veterinarians. This course has been submitted for RACE approval for veterinarians.

Course Description:
This course is the third of six modules of the Organ System Pathophysiology and ABVP Core Examination review course. The organ system-based modules build on the on foundations of pathophysiology and medicine in modules 1 and 2, using concepts and disease examples specific to the various body systems.

The course can be used as a portion of the preparation for the ABVP Core examination, but it is not designed as a test-preparation course. The instructors do not have access to the questions. Also, material in this course may be more current than that examination. However it will allow those preparing for the examination to work systematically through different topics over the course of a year, accomplishing a broad review. The emphasis will be on pathophysiology, serving as a foundation for good case management.

This course consists of seven (7) 2 hour Real Time Sessions, supplemental library materials, interactive message board discussions, multiple choice quizzes (after each Real Time Session), and a mandatory end-of-course test. Successful completion (scoring 80% or better) on the end-of-course test is required to earn a certificate of completion for the course.

The questions used on the examination may be a few years behind the current knowledge and practice, whereas the course will strive to be more current.

We recommend using the course to

1. keep progressing through the topics so all topics will have been studied prior to the exam and
2. to provide participants with feedback on their strongest and weakest topics to guide their individual exam specific preparations.

Upon completion of this course, the participant should be able to

• Better understand the pathophysiologic basis of diseases of the respiratory, cardiac and dermatologic body systems.
• Apply the pathophysiologic basis of disease to generate better and complete differentials for problems.
• Apply the pathophysiologic basis of disease to improve case management.

Course Materials: Course materials will be available in the course library prior to each Real Time Session.
Required textbook: There is no required textbook for this course.

Content: Physiology of heart disease � the basics
Dealing with cardiac patients � selected cases demonstrating how to evaluate and treat them
