COURSE DESCRIPTION
This is a broad course covering major diseases and treatments in veterinary dermatology.
Course Outline:
Week 1 (10/27):
Course Introduction and How I treat the 10 most common Skin diseases part 1 (Hnilica)
This discussion will review practical and user-friendly methods to diagnose and treat the first grouping of the ten most common dermatologic diseases (based on survey information for 100 veterinarians from across the country).
Week 2 (11/3):
How I treat the 10 most common Skin diseases part 2 (Hnilica )
This discussion will review practical and user-friendly methods to diagnose and treat the second grouping of the ten most common dermatologic diseases (based on survey information for 100 veterinarians from across the country).
Week 3 (11/10):
Immune Mediated skin diseases (Thompson)
- learn to recognize the most common immune mediated diseases you will see in practice
- what are the appropriate tests that must be done prior to starting therapy
- Treatment of immune mediated disease (focus on various immunomodulators,immunosuppressives, and cyclosporine)
Week 4 (11/17):
Diagnosis and Treatment of Allergy (Bloom)
You will learn an effective diagnostic approach to a pruritic dog. Also you will learn treatment options ranging from glucocorticoids to cyclosporine and in what situation each is the best choice.
-When should intradermal testing (or serum testing) be performed?
-When and how should food trials be performed?
-Steps to properly diagnosing a pruritic dog
Thanksgiving Break (11/24)
Week 5 (12/1):
Feline Dermatology (Sargent)
Itchy Kitty - What to do?
Cats aren't small dogs - derm diseases unique to the cat
Week 6 (12/8):
Derm Drugs (May)
Will discuss successful treatment of resistant bacterial skin infections; commonly encountered, but potentially unrecognized, drug interactions between commonly used drugs in dermatology as well as strategies for successfully medically managing allergic skin disease in the dog and cat. Case material will be utilized during the discussion to emphasize relevant points.
Week 7 (12/15):
Dr. Itchy's Tips and Tricks (Hnilica)
This discussion will review all of the tips and tricks that I have learned in 10 years of dermatology practice.

COURSE WITHDRAWAL AND REFUND POLICY: Withdrawal prior to the listed start date of a course entitles the registrant to a complete refund or a credit toward a future VIN CE course, whichever is preferred. Withdrawal within 1 week after the listed start date (i.e. including no more than one real-time session) entitles the registrant to a credit toward any future VIN CE course. (Does not apply to courses with only one real-time session.) After the first real-time session, a registrant may withdraw due to special circumstances and receive prorated credit towards a future VIN course. These requests will be handled on an individual basis. The amount of the prorated credit will be determined based on 65% of the time remaining in the course at the time of withdrawal.
