COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course in Veterinary Dental Techniques is a course designed to allow discussions of current techniques used in veterinary dentistry. Veterinarians practicing all levels of veterinary dentistry are invited to participate, from the veterinarian just interested in getting more information in veterinary dentistry to the Board Certified Veterinary Dentist.

The first portion of this module is devoted to proper dental record keeping. The first week of the course will discuss dental terminology and charting, documenting by intraoral photography, disease and procedure abbreviations. The next portion of the course will discuss dental equipment and care.

Course Outline:

Week 1 (1/9):
Tooth abbreviation systems, dental terminology, periodontal indices and charting (Holmstrom and Frost)

Week 2 (1/16):
Documenting by intraoral photography (Holmstrom and Frost)

Week 3 (1/23):
Disease and procedure abbreviations (Holmstrom and Frost)

Break

Week 4 (2/6):
Dental workstations, dental hand pieces, compressor & hand piece maintenance, hand piece accessories, hand instruments, sharpening (Holmstrom and Matson)

Week 5 (2/13):
Ultrasonics, exodontic equipment, restorative equipment, orthodontic equipment (Holmstrom and Matson)

Week 6 (2/20):
Dental Radiology equipment, processing dental radiographs, digital radiology, lighting (Holmstrom and Matson)

Discussions will begin on the start date of the course and continue for 7 days following the last real-time session.

The Veterinary Dental Techniques series is designed as six individual modules. You may enroll in all six modules or just take the modules in your area of interest.

COURSE WITHDRAWAL AND REFUND POLICY: Withdrawal prior to the listed start date of a course entitles the registrant to a complete refund or a credit toward a future VIN CE course, whichever is preferred. Withdrawal within 1 week after the listed start date (i.e. including no more than one real-time session) entitles the registrant to a credit toward any future VIN CE course. (Does not apply to courses with only one real-time session.) After the first real-time session, a registrant may withdraw due to special circumstances and receive prorated credit towards a future VIN course. These requests will be handled on an individual basis. The amount of the prorated credit will be determined based on 65% of the time remaining in the course at the time of withdrawal. It is not possible to withdraw retroactively.
