Dr. Carol Morgan was a fierce friend of veterinarians and staff, of patients and clients. She championed conscientious Ethical Decision-making in veterinary medicine and animal welfare throughout her career, including through her published works. Carol was a sought-after speaker and collaborator at both national and international stages.

Carol was a 1988 graduate of the Western College of Veterinary Medicine - University of Saskatchewan.  Shel obtained her PhD at the University of British Columbia in 2009. There she was a pioneer of Interdisciplinary Studies through the W Maurice Young Centre for Applied Ethics and the UBC Animal Welfare Program. Her doctoral research focused on moral decision making by veterinarians with respect to animal welfare decisions.

She was involved in several animal welfare organizations and committees including the British Columbia Veterinary Medical Association Animal Welfare Committee, the British Columbia Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, the Canadian Council on Animal Care, the Code Development Committees for the National Farm Animal Care Council Codes of Practice for Sheep and for Pigs, and the Society for Veterinary Medical Ethics.

She was also the recipient of the 2012 CVMA Humane Award for her leadership in the care and well-being of animals.

Dr. Carol Morgan passed away on November 7, 2015, after a nearly successful campaign against cancer. Carol’s footprint in Veterinary Medical Ethics is deep and wide and is truly inspirational.
